Wyndham City Artist in Residency Program
Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre
Create [SPACE] program is designed to provide temporary spaces for local artists in Wyndham venues. The residencies are for artists to develop existing or new work, experiment, and expand on their practice.
During the residency, I was able work on various creative projects that connected to my creative practice and Culture. I was able to develop and oversee the completion of new work and enhanced my skillsets. During the residency I engaged in community events, shared my resources, engaged in community yarns and engagements and conducted artist talks.
Wunder Gym X Wyndham City’s Wearable Art
Independent Fashion Incubator Program
I gained so much awareness and experience from this program. We all highlighted the rich Cultural heritage of the community. Stories woven through textiles, fashion, and art that reflect the unique identities and traditions of Wyndham’s diverse population.
My Dress Title -
“The Spirit of the Emu”
Statement -
“This piece curated by Tamay Beam, an Aboriginal Minjungbal woman from the Bundjalung Nation; elegantly merges traditional Aboriginal artistry with modern bridal fashion.
It reflects her deep Cultural heritage and spiritual connection to the land. The colour white is reflecting spiritual energy, balance and harmony. The dress is made to honour wisdom of ancestors and the continuity of stories passed through generations.
The emu; symbolizes strength, resilience, and ancestral guidance. The emu is a majestic creature that strides firmly, confidently and elegantly across the land, representing connectedness to country. By wearing this piece she embodies the essence of the emu as it represents purity, clarity, and protection from the spirits.
The handwoven statement pieces, incorporating echidna quills and emu feathers, further reflect the connection to Country, resilience, and Cultural responsibility, showcasing the beauty and strength of Aboriginal artistry. “
